About Marianne

Marianne Kirby is an artist, writer and editor based in Orlando, FL. Her work is based around practical themes, but created with an eye to the different. As such, a simple computer cable becomes a belt, and simple boxes made of paper emerge as complex sculpture. Her eye for fine detail has earned her some attention in Europe, and she has had work commissioned for private collections in the UK. Her work with limited edition volumes of her own poetry, each individually hand-bound, has found its way into private collections around the country. Kirby sees her work as following the idea of repurposing materials. “I like to see what I can turn things into,” she says. “It’s about finding new ways to look at the things we often don’t even really see.

That is the official bio. *grin* Sounds pretty good, eh?

I’m a 30-year-old woman, living with my husband and three cats, in the heat of the nearly-year-’round summer that is Orlando, FL. I’ve been here for 11 years and it has been interesting to grow up along with the city.

My work is done primarily with reclaimed and repurposed materials. That means I use a lot of stuff that other people consider trash and also some stuff that was never meant to be jewelry. I think it is an adventure!

If you don’t like what I’m making and sharing here, that is totally okay. But I moderate comments and don’t publish trolls. We don’t have to agree and you don’t have to like me. But if you act like a jerk, you don’t get to play.
